The Capital Baptist Gospel Choir was started in 2009 by the Oklahoma State African-American Fellowship, SBC.
The goal was to bring various Southern Baptist Churches together through the venue of Gospel music. Due to distance, the Fellowship decided to start regional choirs, according to the associations in the three major metropolitan areas of our state, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Lawton.
Since most of our churches are in the Oklahoma City Metro, this is where the first Choir was established. And, since all of the Oklahoma City Churches are in the Capital Baptist Association, thus our name, Capital Baptist Gospel Choir.
Terry Tubbs, pastor of Harvest For Souls Baptist Church, is the state Minister of Music. He directors the Capital Baptist Gospel Choir, and will over see the other choirs, as they come online.
The Capital Baptist Choir is made of our volunteer singers and musicians from Southern Baptist Churches in our Association. They have performed at the Capital Baptist Annual Meeting, and are available for other engagements.
Members are required to be an active member, in good standing, in a Southern Baptist Church. If a person meets these requirements, but their Church is not in the Capital Baptist Association, they may join the choir. This is for our churches in smaller associations, that would like to participate.
